Sofa Lovin'

For a living room, a sofa is a statement piece; the perfect dress for that upcoming event you're oh, so excited about.  You all know as well as I do that there are more sofas out there than meets the eye; more than I even care to think about - can we say exhausting?!?  They come in all types; lovely ones, atrocious ones, in subtle tones, some so bright I need my shades, wallet-friendly versions, as well as budget-busters, the possibilities are seriously endless!  All of these options can be both good and bad - good because people love options and just like Goldilocks and the Three Bears, you too want to find the one that's juuusssst riggghhhttttttt......  With all of these options, it can also be bad because, well, there are so many options - ha!

As tempting as it is to go with some amazeballs print when picking our your sofa and/or the fabric for it, my rule of thumb on this is ALWAYS go neutral on the fabric!!  If you do decide to go with a print, be sure and pick a subtle/classic print that is not too trendy, otherwise, you may be left shaking your head and wondering whyyyy (insert tears here) a few years down the road.  You may be thinking there is no fun in picking a boring fabric for a huge piece of furniture that you're going to have to look at every single day.  Well, this is where the fun of accessories come in!  Fun pillows, bright or sophisticated throws, or even throwing in something "outside of the box" like draping a cowhide can look amazing and chic on your sofa and really will liven up the neutral fabric.  The fun part is these accessories can be changed out as often as you like and your budget will thank you in the end!

Here are fab some sofa's that I've been crushin' on lately - enjoy!

Happy NEW YEAR!

I never did my New Year's post - say what?!?  I know, I know, I'm a LOT behind (only by a month), can you believe it's already February - but....HAPPY 2-0-1-3!!!

(Even though this was written at the beginning of January and never posted, we'll just go ahead and do that now...)
With each new year that comes, it seems that everyone jumps on the boomtastic-sized and sometimes unrealistic resolution bandwagon.  These usually last all of about a week or two and then magically reappear on next year's resolution list.  I myself have learned that it is far better to set reachable "goals" and then proceed ahead!

A few things I'm trying to stash in my little baggie of goals/reminders for this year:
-Try to surround myself with people that are positive, uplifting, and those who add a bit of sparkle to my life!
-Live a little simpler!  I think we can all benefit from this...
-Be constantly & eternally grateful for the people & things we have in our lives - enough said!
-Be healthy: no hospitals, no surgeries, no major illnesses, no pain - for this I PRAY, for all of us!
-Do what makes you healthy & happy in life.  It's never too late to start!
-Take it a little easier on myself!  (Sometimes my expectations can be a wee bit high...)
-With Melange Designs, I have a lot of things going on behind the scenes and a lot of ideas churning, so with that said, I hope that this year is full of exciting and fun-filled projects that I can continue to share with all of you!

With each day that this new year brings, may it too bring peace, love, joy, and happiness to you and those around you!  ...here's to an extra sparkly and blessed rest of this year!!

Antique 3-Tier Table - Before & After

This is another one of my first pieces that I painted, a wee bit back, and I was also really happy at how this one turned out.  I decided to paint this table a lighter shade, because sometimes the simpler the better!  There was a lot of detail to this table's design to begin with, so sweet and simple on the color it was, and I think it turned out quite nicely.  The info and pics of it are below...

**NOTE: Each of these pieces are for sale unless otherwise noted; feel free to contact me with any questions.  Remember - I also do custom requests!
The 3 Tier Table is just a lovely, light grey color, that I slightly distressed.  I then added a bit of dark wax to give the paint a bit of an aged look.  The dark wax really brings out the details in the claw, ball feet, as well as the carvings!

Antique Blue Chippendale Low Boy - Before & After

This Chippendale Low Boy was one of the first pieces I painted, a little while back, and I must say I was really happy with how it turned out.  To be honest, it's probably my favorite piece thus far!  I especially ended up loving the fun punch of color I chose for the inside of the drawers!  Kind of reminds me of the saying surrounding the mullet hairstyle (horrible analogy, I know); except with this, it's all business on the outside and a party on the inside - HA!  The deets and pics of this piece are below...

**NOTE:  This piece is FOR SALE, and as always, please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have!

This Chippendale Low Boy was painted a gorgeous and sophisticated shade of blue, all the while I decided to mix it up and paint the inside of the drawers a bright and fun shade of coral.  I refinished the original Chippendale hardware by painting them in a soft hue of gold.  I then waxed this lil' in a clear coat to forever protect the paint and lightly distressed only a few places to finish off the piece.  Hope you like!
